6th Grade Science

We believe that science should be a hands-on learning experience for students.  Students will participate in at least 3 lab days a week. 6th grade science focuses on students observing, questioning, and testing like scientists.  There is a heavy emphasis for 6th graders on learning how to use proper measurement techniques, following and creating a lab procedure, collecting data, and analyzing the data in graphs or in written expression.  This curriculum will help students have a better understanding of their world and create the building blocks for their future science classes.

We will be covering the following NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards)

in 6th grade Science & Engineering:

  • Matter MS-PS1-1, MS-PS1-2, MS-PS1-3
  • Motion & Stability MS-PS2-3, MS-PS2-5
  • Energy MS-PS3-1, MS-PS3-2, MS-PS3-3, MS-PS3-4, MS-PS3-4
  • Earth's Place in the Universe MS-ESS1-1
  • Earth & Human Activity  MS-ESS3-1, MS-ESS3-3
  • Molecules to Organisms MS-LS1-1, MS-LS1-2, MS-LS1-3, MS-LS1-7, MS-LS1-8
  • Engineering Design MS-ETS1-1, MS-ETS1-2, MS-ETS1-3, MS-ETS1-4
